Thanks. Over the years I have tried so many times to write, and it has always seemed stilted or derivative. For some reason this time it seems to be working, and the +ve feedback has given me the confidence to keep going.
Thanks Again
Graham

Where some lead, many follow.
As a general rule of thumb, what gay men do now, the rest of the Y chromasomes do later. As someone with a foot in both camps, one camp being more camp than the other, I have seen this process in fashion, interior design, food etc.
Basicly we are good at making silk purses from sow's ears.

The piece started as a very different idea, which then took a fork, and split into two bits. I have attempted to write for years, and always was unhappy with the result, which was usually too derivitave. However, in the past 3-4 months, this would appear to have changed. When I was in my teens and twenties, and declared a desrie to write, someone at the time said that the best thing I could do was go out and experience as much of life as possible as it is only that broad experience that gives you the material. I then clocked up a lot of mileage, and it now seems to be paying off. The bizarre thing is that it is not me that is writing it. It is as if there is someone feedng the lines, but I find that one idea triggers a cascade. For example, my favourite bit is the idea of the Schrodingers Gonad and the Big Pant Uncertainty Principle. I do not have \a clue wjhere that came from.
Regards how long....1st draft about an hour, second..well it more evolved. I was at work when doing it, so no more than say 2 hours in total, but as I am working, my mind is obviously still churnng through the ideas. As Terry Pratchet says, it really is the most fun you can have on your own.
Way - Hey, a smiley in the right place. I am improving.

Another thought...the nice thing about humour is that you get instant feedback. The first time an original line gets a laugh is an incredible feeling. I joined a writing class at the uni here in Edinburgh. The first piece I read out in class ( the Butlins, conception and pleated skirts piece) made me more nervous than I have been in years, but when the first joke went down well, & you see these faces smiling and think with surprise " I did that" it is almost as good as sex.
Almost.

I really enjoyed your article, and consider it to be an excellent UNIVERSAL appraisal of HMU, as well as an entertaining and informative read. I'm new to this but it seems to me that the best articles on The Guide are the ones with universal insight. Here in Australia I had a long giggle into my morning cup of tea, so congratulations on an excellent and successful article!
