h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

The Southeastern U.S. lays claim to his Eastern Tiger swallowtail butterfly (Papilio glaucus), but it also thrives in New England, as far north as Ontario, and as far west as eastern Texas and the Great Plains.

The eggs are laid on plants of the magnolia and rose families. The Tulip tree and the wild black cherry are favorites. The adults like plants with red or pink flowers. Ash, lilac, and willow can also be host plants.

My great-niece found this nearly intact butterfly on the farm, I'll have you know.

It is still a beautiful butterfly.

But alas! I have what is called a :- "Joiners eye" (from being a joiner)
I "see" if "lines" etc are out of true..

Like a slight misalignment of a picture frame on a wall etc..

Oh, good. That's a talent to have! I cannot align a picture on a wall to save my life. I make other people do it. (I have crooked vision.)

I can walk into a room and basically instantly "see" a picture frame out of line on a wall

And to keep my "mouth shut" takes some doing

I taught a night school German class once where one of my students, a retired meteorologist, could always pick up the handout I had typed and PROOFREAD THREE TIMES, and find the only typo on the page in three seconds flat.

The kicker was: he had only one functional eye. He wore an eyepatch.

I've got the typo radar thing as well. (I only see my own after hitting the Post Message button).
Used to walk though a computer room at Polytechnic and pick out typos on screens I wasn't even actively reading. That can be annoying.


Beautiful butterfly. If I ever saw one of those it must have been in a zoo.

In my neighborhood we have a crazy lady who misconstrues every leaflet we hand out, but she also spots the typos that the rest of us have inspected dozens of times.

Does that make me a crazy lad?

Fact! The first step to being cured

Is knowing the "ailment"

My ailment is being daft etc - I don't WANT to be cured

If you're really creative, people will overlook a little craziness. The lady in question wouldn't know creativity if it bit her in the nether regions.

She would probably take it to court though. If it did that.

And she would probably lose. She has never won a case that she brought against us
