I ty to compare plants and animals I see pictured in the Post with plants and animals I see around me. I'm trying to relate to the other person's puddle, and maybe inviting the other person to think about how puddles can differ form one place to another.

I personally find it hard to decide whether I am changing the subject in a conversation or that the flow of conversation is just evolving in a different direction. On the other hand, I do understand what you are trying to tell.

I think the design of H2G2 is for us all to compare our puddles so we can imagine a larger, more inclusive puddle.

Yes, that is what I think.
On the other hand, I tend to walk from puddle to puddle when wearing my waterproof hiking boots in real life, but I suppose most people would not want to have their metaphorical puddles trodden into.
