Prolonged sub-freezing weather has not yet happened, it appears.
We're in the same boat in Boston. My lawn has some green in it, and there's green here and there elsewhere in my yard.

You are right, when I took this photo there had not been much frost yet. But now we just had a week with lots of snow. The kids had much fun. 
Unfortunately it is supposed to melt again in the next few days.

We had about a foot of snow in early December. Then it was 60 degrees F on Christmas Day, and a sprinkling of snow now and then since. Those coneflower leaves are still stubbornly green. Likewise the Blue Flag irises and the dewberry leaves.
Really, the kind of winter where it might go below 20 degrees at night, but still inch up to or above freezing the next day.
The end of January might stay below freezing for a few days, but just barely.
