If you're lucky, your ship will sink within a mile or so of shore. Ships aren't always that lucky. smiley - sadface

I think the risk of wrecking your ship gets higher the closer you get to the shore (especially if it is a big ship).

I once read a book about oak trees -- pretty much a comprehensive look at every aspect. They had marvelous lumber for making into ships -- strong, but also supple. When the U.S.S. Constitution was being built, the builders begged the government of Dedham, Mass. if they could use wood from the Avery Oak

The Hurricane of 1938 knocked down part of the tree, and a thunderstorm in 1972 finished it off.
