I love it.
For the heavy metal edition I wonder what would work best, repeat the chorus between the verses, or just scream "CHORUS!!!" at the appropriate locations. The last option makes for a nice compact song. (I know quite some songs where this approach would be an improvement.)

Humour was my shield! Until IT became who I am! 
Spike Milligan/Goons/Monty Pythons etc and that sort of humour was my starting "foundation" as such..
