A Conversation for Writing Right with Dmitri: Something Old, Something New

There will be pandemonium, commas everywhere, no Writing Right.... Evokes scenes of characterless desolation and grammatical carnage.,,,
How will we know what foreign film not to watch next on Nettube?
What's a Flemmish looking beard?
Where will we get our random German plot quotes from? From where? Whence from? See, it's started already!
Curly exclamation marks will rise like killer gulls!
End of a bleedin era...
But thank you for every single word.
Sad day me old mucker, sad day."*,,,,,

Aw. Thanks for the vote of confidence.
I hope you can see this beard pic:

I shall be nattering on, but without the writing 'advice', on various topics in the upcoming op/ed series called 'Deep Thought'. Robbie says he likes it, but he may just be being nice.

So just a beard then, doesn't evoke thoughts of waffles or chocolates or beer... Time to move on, you've lost it mate!

That beard reminded me of the guy in the Belgian tourist office in Cologne. We went there once to try and plan a holiday. We wanted to see Godfrey de Bouillon's castle.
The man in the office couldn't have been more helpful. He had this enormous beard, about twice the size of that one, and bushier. Birds could've nested in that beard...reminded me of old codgers back in the hills...he pulled out maps and schedules, which we pored over together...
It turned out that to get to the castle by train, you'd have to switch trains in a certain small town. But the trains only ran once a day. The train we needed to catch left the station five minutes BEFORE the connecting train arrived...
...and there were no hotels. None.
Conclusion: since we didn't have a car, we couldn't see Godfrey's castle. So we gave up and went to Antwerp again. I adore Belgium.

I rode to Bruges once with a mate who had a beard like that. Things happened. Just saying. End of story. Rubbish I know, but there's no-one to guide me now...is there? Your fault!

Here's wishing you lots of good writing, Dmitri.
Thanks for all the tips, and for putting up with me when I argue.

I know I've seemed bent on giving you a hard time at times, and I think I've riled you a bit. Sorry about that.
Now as for writing mechanics, do very many mechanics do much writing?

Yes, thank you very much from me as well - the Writing Right Archive is a hugely valuable resource, and it is an honour for h2g2 that you have shared it with us over the years so we can refer to it whenever we need it
Key: Complain about this post
