Invasion by unfriendly beings from elsewhere in the universe/galaxy is a common trope in sci-fi stories.
Maybe there are unfriendly entities on our own planet with a desire to invade, but not the means to do so, at least not yet?
So, logically the mind must wander to places outside our world. Maybe there are forces powerful enough to invade us, *and* technologically advanced tools? Yes, a good premise for a story!
So, bring them on. Just let me stay behind my shield, where the worst that can happen is that I see the occasional exploding head, but no realistic dange of being the victim.
I could be tempted by an alien bearing chocolate chip cookies, though. ,drool> That is my weakness.
