Is the one top a skipper?

We had lots of skippers in our field where I grew up. They had nice patches of orange/red, and were amusing in the way they would kind of hop out where they were hiding, and fly a distance, to perch somewhere else.

Also, Monarchs are the butterflies that some of us want to help. In my yard, I have five Common milkweed plants, four Swamp milkweeds. Whorled milkweeds may also come up at some point. Butterfly Weed has come up. Monarchs will eat the leaves of any of these, though I suspect that a naughty rabbit has eaten the leaves form one in front of my house. smiley - cross

The butterfly in the lower picture has such lovely pastel shades, rather unusual as most of them around here have bright dark colours.

That's okay. The butterflies know what they are. If they don't I can't help them with it.
