A Conversation for Ant on a Rose

The ant is there for the nectar, but don't count on pollination,

Sure, some ants fly, at least during part of their lives. They can, if they wish, fly form flower to flower with pollen sticking to them.

But f the ant isn't flying, bring pollen from flower to flower is less llkely.

But the rose didn't know that. It probably provides plenty of nectar, so if some of it doesn't advance pollination, that'snot a great loss. besides, those double leaves develop out of what would have been stamens or whatever. So, less chance of rosehips, which contain seeds.

I think the ant may have fallen from the tree above the rose. Also I forgot to cut off the old flowers and they indeed develeoped to rosehips. I wasn't aware of the relation between double elaves and rosehips!

I meant to sat=y double petals, not double leaves. If those roses developed rosehips, I'm happy to know about it. smiley - smiley

If you repeat a mistake three times, people are apt to think it's rue. At least that was a central conceit in "Hunting of the snark."

Love the silken appearance of the rose. Maybe the ant was using it as a trampoline?
