DG:
Lovely picture. It's funny: I'm a medievalist. I always saw the Middle Ages in close to monochrome, though lately, people have been using paint research to restore old churches and whatnot, and have pointed out that those people were really into bright colours. That should teach us. It also partially explains this week's snarky video, which has some technicolour knights in it.
But we're used to viewing the Middle Ages in ruin form - and this image is just set perfectly to make us think of the discovery of a piece of the past in the middle of a ramble. Thanks, Tav!
As the poet said,
'The sword of Charlemagne the Just
Is ferric oxide, known as rust.'

Thanks Dmitri. Color didn't really improve this picture, I'm afraid. The castle indeed is a ruin.
And great poem.

Lovely tones and textures, but that ivy creeping over the gateway reminds us of the power of nature.

thanks FWR
Yes, there's lots of ivy growing on the walls of this runis and also trees are practically everywhere.

Yes, this is a very atmospheric photo - the contrast in textures between the ivy, stones, and wood is excellent
