Yeah, that sounds like me as a kid. It's as if I had been raised by wolves, and needed to study people as if they were alien life forms.

Did he really need to? They would only return every 17 years or so. If he was ten at this encounter, he would have been 27, 44, 61, and 78 at the next four encounters.

Alas, there are different 'broods'. A few years ago, there was one in North Carolina. Fortunately, not near my apartment complex...also, last year was a big year for this county...again, luckily, they didn't show up where I was...

Brooding seems to be a theme here, the cicadas as well as his approach to the whole camp thing.
At first I expected there to be a surprise twin brother at the camp, but maybe that is because I have seen the film "Parent trap" too many times.
