FWR:

Take one already brilliant photo (scroll back up for the colour version!) Crop it carefully and remove the colour, and….wow!

Always have a second look at the photos you are already happy with, a little thought and a few clever tweaks, and a great shot becomes a fantastic shot!

DG:

Amen. What FWR said. It's probably the editor in me, always mentally doing layout (which used to involve an X-acto knife smiley - winkeye), but I'm a fan of this kind of thing. In spite of the subject, due to the phobia...

That is one handsome grasshopper, no question about it. smiley - applause

I used to have a grasshopper that liked to sit on one of my coneflowers. I don't know whether it was there to do mischief, to get a good view, or to pretend to be a bee or butterfly.

Wait, I'm probably reading too much into this.

Caiman raptor elk - Inside big box, thinking.

Love the textures.

Now we only have to decide about what the grasshopper was thinking. It does look slightly offended to me. (but maybe all grasshoppers do)

Taking the colour away again helps to focus on the details, such as the texture of the grasshopper's face and legs, and the cropping has made a very appealing image indeed, wtih the antennae drawing the eye into the picture smiley - magic

Losing the color is not a bad thing anyway, as many grasshoppers are naturally gray. smiley - smiley
