It's really terrible what happened. And I find it awful that the workers smoked up there although they were not allowed to. Even if it had nothing to do with the fire they should all pay fines!
I find it interesting that they consider not rebuilding the spire as it was but to make a modern replacement. As an architect who took extra courses in renovation and preservation of historic buildings I think it's actually not a bad idea.What on the other hand is bad are the suggestions they obviously got so far:

Some of those are weird. I kind of like the baccarat crystal and the stained glass, though.

I'm sorry about the dreadful fire in Notre Dame and I wish success to all those trying to rebuild the cathedral.
Some of these designs are grotesque. I'm sure there are better ideas out there.
