Interesting theory - there definitely could be something in that, as people are getting taller on average but legroom is staying the same at best, and can rarely be described as generous...
Not that I have that excuse, as my legs are below average in length, but there's something about sitting at a computer with a colleague that causes me to indulge I noticed I did it again yesterday, mirroring my colleague's posture, but fortunately it wasn't as bad as a few years ago when I actually knocked knees with my manager during a subconscious manspreading competition
Reminds me of Eddie Hall, too, having to squeeze himself into a woefully inadequate chair with no legroom in more ways than one... A87915775

I don't even get legroom at work Monday-Wednesday – the desks are so narrow that I can't stretch my legs out in front of me without invading the space of the part-time lady who works opposite me. I can only sit comfortably at my desk on Thursday and Friday, when it feels strange to sit normally. The average height for men in the UK is 5'9" and I'm a little (but not that much) over average at 5'10", yet I seem to spend a ridiculous amount of time each day cramped without legroom.

Yikes, that is grim
I guess it saves money on facilities to shoehorn lots of people into small rooms, but accommodating above average people comfortably would save a good number of people time and effort as they wouldn't have to uncramp themselves as often, if at all...
