Thanks for this, Willem. It is an interesting hobby, but I am with you pefferring full grown trees which can develop an entire mini-ecosystem. But these little guys are cute and could be a zen meditation for their owners.

I just want the deer to stop browsing on my apple tree.

And I want the local rabbits not to defoliate my Juneberry bush. smiley - sadface

A relative gave me a bonsai tree many years ago. It died long before it should have. Since then I've figured out how to keep plants properly watered, so I might be successful if I tried it again. But I'm an outdoor kind of guy in the Summer. We have outdoor flowers eight months of the year, so I can live without them for the other four. I start indoor seedlings a month or two before Spring starts.

Anyway, I've gotten pretty good at choosing dwarf cultivars of dogwood, azaleas, etc. They aren't bonsai, but they're close enough for me. smiley - smiley

Hi Elektra! At least the deer could probably not devour your apple tree in a single bite, as they could if it were a bonsai!

PaulH, just where is it that you live? Sounds like a pleasant climate for growing stuff. Over here theoretically we have the whole year frost-free but most of the things here go dormant for 6 months or so over the dry winter.

I like plants that are naturally small … we have some amazing ones over here. But I love huge ancient trees also.
