Why the Pirate Couldn't Play Cards

Once a month in Eastleigh, a town halfway between the cities of Southampton and Winchester, the Point Theatre holds a board game evening between 6-10pm. It is free and they supply a good range of games, they just hope you spend some money in the cafe. For the second time I and a work colleague (only one this time, hopefully we'll have more people next time; people keep saying they're very interested but fail to turn up) went along. It seems a good way to meet new people although I'm hoping to get to know people I work with better.
Though she went by train and I cycled we arrived at the same time, and saw that they had 'Carcassone: Abbot and Rivers Expansion Pack', a variety of one of new favourite board games that we hadn't tried yet, we gave that a go. We ended up playing three games of it – two with other people there who wanted to join in and had recently moved to the area, and when they had left one just the two of us. It is still one of the few games we regularly play that I've never won at.
Why couldn't the play cards?
He was standing on the deck!

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
