The biggest difference between this time last year and this year at home is that we now have a pet called Ollie. We got her at the end of January – I believe she was previously a Christmas before she came to us but the family who got her discovered they were allergic.
She's quite a small , a white grey tabby, tabby on top, white below, and quite a clever . For instance she knows how to open the front door if we ever leave it unlocked from the inside. She also has claimed quite a wide-ranging territory and loves exploring, following us to the shops and even once walking with the kids all the way to school, so when we're outside we have to double check she's not following where we're going. She's also quite a social with other cats, often approaching them with a chatty 'mew mew miao mew mew' and then getting a hurt look on her face when they hiss or swipe at her, as if to say, 'what did you do that for?'
So far she has brought two birds into the kitchen – one was most definitely dead but the other didn't seem to have been affected at all, so how she managed that we're not sure.
She's not really a lap cat, though she'll sit on my lap occasionally. She does like to wake my wife up by sitting on her face in the morning(!) The other thing she enjoys doing is rubbing herself against my toothbrush (which is one of the electric ones that are designed to stand up). No matter where I put it, she finds a way to rub against it without knocking it over. Which I suppose is clever and proof of her agility. Have you ever wondered why toothpaste manufacturers do not make toothpaste with the texture and flavour of cat hair? Believe me I know the answer…
