Was this after the revamp?
Looks very clean compared to the roof I can remember.
Also it would appear to me that maybe the Manx poet may be referring to the speedier side of the station. Den of vice was lime Street in the 1800s.

Yes - the photo was taken only a few weeks ago, so the roof was particularly bright and shiny after the revamp
That would make sense about using the architecture as a metaphor for the seedy side of the station...
I see Clifton is in Manchester.
"O God! the pain! the horror of it all!"
What a line! Superbly conveys emotion...

It is quarter past two
Through the glass, skies are blue
My life's true vocation
Is to film Lime Street Station
I like that quarter past two clock. And the light through the glass.
Great station pic! I can hear it, station sounds!
Yes, what a varied journey these November photos have taken us on!

Yes, that was serendipitous about the time - I was supposed to be meeting a friend at 2pm but the train was delayed so I amused myself bystudying the architecture in detail. Well worth looking up indeed
It is impressive how stations are so evocative - there's a plaque at Hadlow Road Railway Station A87878236 telling the history of the building and inviting people to imagine what it would have been like in the 1950s. Whenever I read that, I can hear the station sounds, too!
