"Between the plague and cholera" is a French expression meaning "between a rock and a hard place".
"Plague and Cholera" is also the title of a book that was released a few years ago.
It's a novelised biography of Alexandre Yersin, the man who discovered the plague bacillus. ...
...
But that was just one of the many many things he did in his life.
He was a student of Pasteur's, and he was an adventurer.
He was a scientist and an explorer.
He served as a cruise ship doctor and he cultivated rubber trees.
He explored Vietnam when it was still French Indochina.
He competed with Koch for the discovery of the plague.
The book is written in the third person.
It's is very well documented but never boring at all.
It received the Femina Prize here in 2012 and was in the shortlist for several other prestigious literary prizes that year.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
