Happy birthday, Tom! *cue Notepad going "eeeeewwwwwww!"*
I have a bit of calendar math for those of you that like that sort of thing (not a quiz, because I don't know the answer myself, though I'd love if someone could answer my curiosity):
Tom is now 38. We were married when he was 19. Given that we were married on July 12, when will he have been married exactly half of his life? (I've got a few years to go--I was 23 when we married.)

You can call me TC Posted Nov 22, 2015
I wouldn't know where to start as the variables "Tom's birthday" and "Tom's wedding anniversary" aren't known. The year might help, too, so you know how many leap years to include.

The easiest way to do this is in an excel spreadsheet. We know Tom's birthday - its the 21st nov, yesterday. He is 38 so he was born in 1977. We also know the year he got married but not the date.

You were married on 12 jul 1997 so tom was 7173 days old. He will be 14346 days old on 2 mar 2017.

Thanks, Gnomon I was thinking it would be March-ish, since there's 8 months between his birthday and our anniversary, and March is 4 months from now, but when the curiosity hit, I was too tired to take it further. Heck, I hadn't even thought about the leap years in between (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and next year).

It sounds as if you must be 42 now, Amy.

A related thought just popped into my head. I'm a bit more than half way between when I started working at my current job (I'm on my third employer here, but it's still the same job) and the traditional retirement age of 65. I got this job in 1997 so I've been here a bit more than 18 years. I'll be 65 in 2032, 17 years from now. So, if against all odds, I manage to keep this job and retirement age isn't extended well into the 70s as I expect it will, I'm over the hill to retirement.
Of course I wouldn't take a bet on even being alive that long.

I'd rather be over the hill than under it.
