I emailed the bar last weekend, but haven't heard back (bars and email don't always work well together) so I'm going to pop in today and see about reserving space for 20 to 30 people

The venue is now booked,and we should have the nice area at the back, unless a larger group also books then they get that and we'll get an area near the front.

good job What's their beer choice like? and do they have a good range of non-aocoholic drinks for those of us that what don't drink the evil that is alcohol? ,oj>

The beer choice isn't too bad. It's not excellent, but it's not bad. I had a very nice pint of Thwaites Wainwright when I popped in. They also do decent wine and spirits, and some good coffee and teas. The cider selection's bottles of "stuff" like Kopperberg though I'm afraid.

Will the pre-meet Friday, the pre-pre-meet Th*rsday and the pre-pre-pre-meet Wednesday take place there as well? And what about the after party Sunday?

Friday is likely to be either in the Waterhouse (a Wetherspoons pub in the city centre) or the Crown & Kettle (on the edge of the city centre).

I'm think the pre-pre-meet might be in Port Street, where we had the pre-meet the previous time.

Neither of those places reserve space, so it'd be a free for all to grab tables

Maybe even a pub crawl on the Thursday day, depending what time people turn up...

Waterhouse is always rammed on a Friday night. You'll be lucky to get a table.

It's in Ancoats. I'm always loathe to use the term "better" for things in Ancoats.

Have you been in it recently though? It's improved no end.

I've not, actually. Last time I was round that end it was all JW Lees, karaoke and bad sniff.

Crown & Kettle now has about 7 or 8 ales, 7 ciders and a decent set of bottles. Plus owners and staff that actually care about the place.

Ah, but has the quality of contraband in the bogs improved? That's what the people need to know.

I think they've cleared it out completely.

They do still need to do up the loos a bit though

I suppose that's for the best.
