Sunday. The weather has been very cloudy today, so I had to turn the lights on indoors in the middle of the day.

And the refurbishing maniac living in the flat above has decided that Sunday is the perfect day to do some hammering and drilling. It sounds as if he's laying a new floor in the hallway (right above my head), but he's already done that once before.

After all, he and his girlfriend moved in almost a year ago. There was a lot of noise several days each week for a long time. This spring, there was a note on the board apologizing för the coming Saturday when they might be a bit loud celebrating the girlfriend's 30th birthday and that they had finally finished refurbishing.

Oh really? No, not really. Every now and then (almost weekly) something else needs to be refurbished. Come on, it's not a house! It's a bedroom, a livingroom and a kitchen (same as mine) - just how much can you refurbish?

And during the last few weeks, he's started hammering twice after 11 pm. Next time he does it I'm calling the security company who's responsible for ensuring that the inhabitants follow the rules (no loud noises between 11 pm and 7 am, among other things).

I hope they refurbish in order to get a good price and move away - soon. I'd even take back the old lady who lived there before them and who hoovered like energetically each day, preferably early in the mornings. Including weekend mornings.

Noisy neighbours are a terrible thing. It's bad enough when the people over the back fence have one of their frequent summer parties and play modern pop music loudly all day and evening. But at least they turn it down before bedtime. Hammering would drive me nuts!

6.35 pm - obviously doing the kitchen, hammering.

You know that Crazy Frog thing you posted? Have you thought about playing it on something you can hold up to the ceiling, at full volume, between say 10pm & 11pm

Thanks Deb, but I haven't got any gadget that would allow me to focus all the sound just upwards - the loud music would probably be heard by my neighbours sideways and diagonally up as well.

But I've been toying with the idea, believe me...

Don't mind me, I just thought I'd use this thread to keep record of just how often he keeps making noise.

4.35 pm today - drilling in the bathroom

It seems the latest bit of refurbishing flurry was because they threw a birthday party last night.

My only observation is that if you leave a party in the middle of the night after visiting someone who lives in a block of flats, say your goodbyes *inside, not standing in the staircase through the open door. The stairwell will amplify your voices (especially if you talk loudly, the way people do when slightly drunk).

So far today, pretty quiet upstairs. I hope they both suffer from .

Have they taken up some sort of woodwork as a hobby, perhaps?
