Gnomon - time to move on

This sounds really interesting, and I think we certainly need an entry about rumpot in the Guide. But you've approached it as if for an alien visiting Earth - this approach gets rather tiresome after a while if every entry in the Guide is like this, so we don't write the entries like that any more.

We write them to be read by an intelligent but uninformed Earth-person.

You can make the entry humorous if you want, as long as you are not just borrowing the jokes of Douglas Adams. Jokes borrowed from other people are generally not very funny.

Hi, there! smiley - smiley A rumpot sounds like a good recipe to have.

Gnomon is right - try changing this entry to be about rumpots, without the science-fiction elements.

I'd suggest that you tell us a bit about the history of rumpots, and when and where they're made. Then go to the recipe. smiley - smiley

This can make a good Guide Entry.

Looks like the author has smiley - elvised.

I think there's enough here to be rescued (with the changes Dmitri has suggested), so I'd like to propose the Flea Market.

I think on this one it should go back to Deus

If someone wants to make their own entry on Rumpot then they can smiley - ok

Peanut, if this is in the Flea Market, then another Researcher can use it as the basis of a new entry, or they can ignore it entirely and write their own entry. There is some useful information in here which it would be a pity to ignore.

Hi Gnomon

Generally I don't involved with these sorts of decisions

It is a very individually written entry and I would feel better if Deus was asked to give their permission to have this submitted to the Flea Market and to be potentially rescued.

In the absence of that, then I think it should go back to the author in this case

I'm not sure it was in the spirit of this submission to be to be put into a sort of process, and altered.

"I'm not sure it was in the spirit of this submission to be to be put into a sort of process, and altered."

You're seeming to be trying to overrule the Guide Editors, Dmitri and Bluebottle here? Added to that, Gnomon, who is a previous Guide Editor and one of our most valued and experienced Editorial volunteers.

We're of the opinion that this Entry should be removed to the Flea Market. This is how the Edited Guide Functions. If the author does return, he is welcome to rescue the Entry himself. If another person decides to rescue it, Deus will gain an author credit when the Entry is published.

I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi lanzababy

I just was taken with this entry saw it pop up and offered my thoughts on it.

Sorry I thought that was ok,

I didn't even expect it be taken as a challenge let alone any sort of over-ruling, I thought I was casually talking about a proposal that was all smiley - headhurts

Again sorry for over stepping,

as I said just had an interest in this particular entry

When an entry is in Peer Review, it's for ever research to review, comment, and help the writer to produce the best entry they can.

Unfortunately though, often a researcher writes an entry, puts it into Peer Review, and then disappears before it's finished. When this happens, we loose too many good entries that the Guide needs.

So, the way that h2g2 works is that the Guide Editors are able to move these entries out to places like the Flea Market, which is a sort of holding pen where any other researcher can come along, see an entry that needs finishing off, and do the last few things to turn it into a polished Edited Entry.

Gnomon and Bluebottle are two of our most experienced editors and writers, and they know almost instinctively when something should be rescued, such as this entry, or when it should be returned to the author, which tends to only happen if it's not able to be rescued yet.

If you do have a particular interest in this entry, as a researcher for the Guide, you'd be able to pick it up from the Flea Market, and make sure it gets finished and put back into Peer Review to be polished for the Edited Guide! smiley - ok

The information isn't lost though it is still on h2g2 if it goes back to entry

It is a very credit worthy entry, it wasn't ready for peer review, the workshop was a good place for it, AWW, submission to smiley - thepost if the author didn't want to polish it for The Guide but still have it on record?

As such I still it as a work in progress,

and again until Deus gives permission for this submission to go to the Flea Market,or in the absence of it, I think it should go back to Deus

my own personal view on this particular entry

That is all

I don't want to chuck spanners, challenge anyone, let alone the rules

so I will just slope off now

Yes, I'm afraid that is the way we work, and have always done so. There is a consensus between the Editorial volunteers, who have responsibility for looking after the editorial forums, about the suitability of Entries destined for the Guide.

We've improved the movement of Entries both into, and more importantly, *out of* Flea Market since we took over the site from the BBC. No longer is the Flea Market the stagnant pond that it used to be.

Bluebottle, and others, regularly promote good quality Entries that can and should be rescued. We're also very clear about the calibre of Entries that are sent there, with the hopes they can be improved.

I'm afraid we cannot wait for the approval of an author who seems to have left the site. That would be unworkable. The onus is on the author to take ownership of his work, within a reasonable time frame.

It just that to me doesn't seem quite fitting for this entry though

Hi Dmitri

I think that Bluebottle does a fantastic job as a volunteer and researcher for the Guide, good on you Bluebottle smiley - applause

And obviously I think the world of you smiley - hug

I didn't imagine for one moment that sharing my thoughts on this entry could have been interpreted as a challenge or as negative comment on the valuable work that *all* the Guide volunteers do.

It was just a comment, well comments, if it,well they, had no influence on the decision that was made I would have just left it that smiley - shrug

All comments are taken on board, but the processes have been developed by the active volunteers over the last couple of years they've been doing this, based on what we've been doing since the site started.

The process here is that the GEs can chose where to send it smiley - smiley
