I think we all need to work at being caring individuals and that we need to be MORE thoughtful of others. Being a carer goes against the grain of selfishness that seems to permeate the modern Zeitgeist. Getting to know someone well, on intimate terms needs to be worked at ---but the virtues of patience and humility and joy of making someone else's day more pleasant or improving their mood need to be their own rewards. Of course all carers deserve respite care as well. Sometimes they get overwhelmed with all the stuff they have to remember and can sometimes resent the patient. And they need to be responsible to see to their own health and needs as well but not at their patients expense.

I think selfishness is a trait you are born with, and cooperativeness is a skill that people learn or not as infants. I also think a lot of isolation of people, esp people with perceived issues, is fear. People don't people are confident talking to strangers as they used to, and that builds segregation. But yes, if everyone had kindness as their base motivation the world would be happier. Thanks as always for your comments. smiley - ok
