I tend to agree with BB here, the subject of awards for children's literature seems to be worthy of an Entry in itself. We shouldn't get sidetracked by covering the theme within this Entry.

I'd favour keeping the list of books, with only brief mentions of particular awards in appropriate places, if essential.

This collaborative Entry has evolved from the favourite children's books that h2g2 researchers have enjoyed. In a way, we're giving this list of recommended books our own endorsement. An 'Elton' smiley - hamster or suchlike smiley - winkeye

Astrid Lindgren got quite a lot of awards, for her whole work and for individual books.

in 2005 the Unesco put her original manuscripts (in a library in Stockholm) on the 'Memory of the World' list

http://www.astrid-lindgren.de/ says:

from 2015 her picture will be on Sweidsh money
she got a few honorary doctor titles on different universities
today there is even an Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

Gnomon - time to move on

Diana Wynne Jones was not Welsh, she was English. She lived in Bristol, which admittedly is almost Wales.

She died last year. Do we use past tense for deceased writers, or do they live in an eternal present?

"Diana Wynne Jones was not Welsh, she was English. She lived in Bristol, which admittedly is almost Wales.

I stand corrected. I think I just read the name and assumed, although ISTR a small part of 'Howl's Moving Castle' is also set in Wales.

A couple of typos from the entry:
ON Isaac Asimov: "However his Lucky Starr series of books was written especially for older readers." Should probably read "for _younger_ readers."
"...The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, published in 1900 book and illustrated by..." The word 'book' should probably be removed. Also, the author is most often referred to as "L. Frank Baum" rather than his full name, although that could go either way.
"...The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a deceptively simple story has been teaching children ..." I think you meant to put "_which_ has been..."

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
