Very good pastiche. I'm sure John Donne wouldn't mind - after all, no man can keep his poetry on an island, right?

And he's dead of course. That as well.

Yes, agreed, this is clever indeed.

I had to go read the original first, in order to appreciate the subtlety. Never read John Donne, so getting educated here. smiley - rofl.

Thank you both! I had a lot of fun with this.

If pushed I will admit that I have read bits of John Donne only because a) Lord Peter Whimsey liked him and b) Dianna Wynne Jones based a whole book on one of his poems.

Lord Peter Wimsey! Now there's a magic memory! Mainly because my Dad loved those TV shows in the 70s, with Ian Carmichael. Thanks for that.

Interesting study, in fact, the poems, stories, pictures or songs that we are introduced to, through a character in a book or film or song, or something. Worlds within worlds.

I'm trying to add an interesting example from my own experience. smiley - rofl. Hmm. Well, I got obsessed with Rimbaud for a while, through the poems/songs of Patti Smith and Dylan. I got into Lorca because he was Leonard Cohen's muse.

Your son might get into Donne, via your poem!

Going to think about this further. I'd like to talk to others about it.

Thanks for the thoughts, Solnushka.
