The swans of our childhood were probably just pigeons. .... you see, I didn't know who said that, or anything. ..
These answers are just so fascinating!
At the weekend I am making a car trip with two very well read people, so I am going to learn this quiz, and I won't tell them the answers till we arrive at our destination, and even then they'll have to pay me for my knowledge.
Ah, I do love my Post quiz! Part of my life these days.

I'm really glad it wasn't just me. The only one I knew was Raymond Chandler - and that because he's the only US writer of detective stories I know.

That's interesting. So Chandler's more famous than Dashiell Hammett, for instance? Who knew?
