Do you have a word limit? How scientific do you expect your sci-fi to be?

I am writing something, but it gaily ignores the scientific questions like

* How do our heroes travel vast distances through space, as if they're popping next door for a pizza?

*What is the atmosphere on the alien planet. How can they breathe so easily?

*How do they communicate with the smiley - aliensmilesmiley - alienfrown?

Well, I threatened Dmitri with an Urban Fantasy story about Baba Yaga, so I suspect I will be gaily ignoring even more of the usual salient points of sci fi proper.

I think scifi being scientific is one of those debating points actually. Isn't it enough for sci fi to be about ideas? The science, such as it might be, is just a vehicle.

Although I do love a bit of space opera.
