Page turner:

A87730149 - The Christopher Reeve Era Superman Films
A87730158 - 'Superman' - The Film
A87730167 - 'Superman II' - The Film
A87730176 - 'Superman III' - The Film
A87730185 - 'Supergirl' - The Film
A87730194 - 'Superman IV: The Quest For Peace'

Thanks BB. I'd be happy with either square brackets or bold text. Could a decision be made by the Guide Editors please, as I don't want to have to alter the tags more than once smiley - smiley

OK I have removed the strike-through tags and replaced with bold text enclosed within square brackets.

Comments please?

Gnomon - time to move on

I've checked the first part of The Quest for Peace, up to the Cast List:

"Kal-El consults the voices " -- this is the first time in this entry you have mentioned Kal-El. Up to now you've always called him Superman. Could you just say "Superman consults the voices.." ?

You would then have to change "Superman announces his intention" to "He announces his intention".

Lex arranges a gathering of nuclear weapons arms dealers and proposes that he helps them sell nuclear weapons -- reword to remove the repetition of "nuclear weapons". Perhaps "sell their products"

"place his new improved version of Nuclear Man on a rocket so he can be created in the Sun" -- create isn't the right word here. Nuclear Man can not be placed on a rocket if he has not yet been created. Perhaps "so he can be brought to life in the Sun"?

world famous landmarks --> world-famous landmarks
arms dealing comrades --> arms-dealing comrades

tells the west --> tells the West

"tells the west that nuclear disarmament is a Communist plot, and tells the USSR that nuclear disarmament is a capitalist plot" -- reword to remove the repetition of "nuclear disarmament".

Gnomon - time to move on

big budget spectacles --> big-budget spectacles

Director Richard Donner was asked to direct --> Richard Donner was asked to direct

"As Superman III had been directed by Beatles' director Richard Lester, Golan-Globus turned to experienced director Sidney J Furie, who had directed ..." -- see if you can reduce the number of "directs" in this.

13 days filming --> 13 days' filming

"would have to have a near-identical plot to Superman IV: The Quest For Peace. Superman IV: The Quest For Peace was released" -- put in some extra phrase to break up the two occurrences of "superman iv the quest for peace".

without these numerous key scenes included --> with these numerous key scenes omitted

Inspired by Superman we have Lex -- I know the Superman is in italics, but it is still not immediately obvious that we're talking about the film here. I think it would be better as:

"Inspired by the original Superman movie, we have Lex"

Dutch Elm's Disease --> Dutch Elm Disease

2006s Superman Returns --> 2006's Superman Returns

obviously aimed a young readership --> obviously aimed at a young readership

what the photos contained are of --> what the photos are of

such as appearances in , and he was even the Doctor in Doctor Who: The Curse of Fatal Death
-->
even playing the character of the Doctor in Doctor Who: The Curse of Fatal Death

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
-- the correct title of the film was "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

post #64smiley - biro all done except for: "2006s Superman Returns --> 2006's Superman Returns" which according to A41950046 is an incorrect change.

I see that the entry you cite says 1960's is always wrong. That's not correct. I'll have to change it.

1960's is only wrong when it refers to the decade the nineteen-sixties. It is a plural, so there should be no apostrophe.

When something belongs to 1960, it would use an apostrophe:

"In fact, 1960's most popular performer was..."

In this case, possession is intended, so it should be 2006's

Gnomon - time to move on

Think so. I'm busy over this weekend, so I won't do any processing on this until Monday.

It'll be a few weeks before this is publicised on the front page, as we have entries lined up for the next few weeks, and we'll need a picture for it (which we're discussing at the moment on the Artists' Forum).

Well done, Bluebottle and Galaxy Babe!

I am very impressed with that picture - never dared dream of having a picture like that or indeed at all.smiley - hug

(I wouldn't dare ask GB if she'd like to volunteer to sub-edit the Pink Panther films' articles when they're eventually written (I've not even ordered the last novelisation yet or re-watched them all) but should she want to I'll be delighted. I don't want to selfishly bombard her with everything I write, though, even though I think we make a great team.)

Let me know when they're written and I'll make a decision then OK? At the minute I am in the middle of a house upheaval and need to decorate 3 rooms.

The Pink Panther Strikes Again is one of my all-time favourite films, it contains one of the best jokes I have ever heard and even though I have seen it so many times that I could recite it off by heart it still cracks me up. So you better do it justicesmiley - winkeye
