When Golan-Globus made Superman IV, they intended to make a sequel. During the late stages of Superman IV, after most of this film had been completed, they decided to delete several scenes from Superman IV. These were retained to use as part of the proposed Superman V.

-- this is a very long sentences and is confusing because of the repetition of Superman. It should be rewritten in some way to make it clearer.

Perhaps:

In superman Returns, Supermans's first act is to save Lois Lane and to rescue a crashing aeroplane, just as he did in the movie Superman.>>

changed to:

In Superman Returns, Superman's first act is to save Lois Lane and to rescue a crashing aeroplane, just as he did in the movie Superman.

Although I must say I am not happy with "crashing":

The plane is not crashing, it's striken, and though it would have crashed without Superman's intervention, you can't say "rescued a crashing plane" if it didn't crash. Can you?

If you think my suggestion about "rewritten" is not any clearer, then ignore it.

I believe I still haven't looked at The Quest for Peace.

I had a quick glance at "The Quest for Peace". I don't like the strike-through font - I find it very hard to read. What do other people think?

Because it was only a quick glance, only one thing jumped out at me. There's a sentence about "Dutch Elm Disease" which doesn't make sense - I think "in" has been mistyped as "is".

Yes, I put my hands up and confess 'is' should have been 'in'.

Having seen the film recently I can confirm that the hugely edited version which was released doesn't make sense. I was only able to follow the plot by reading the strike-through text of this entry which filled the holes for me.

but I am willing to either change the strike-through to readable bold text or change the colour of the omitted parts of the plot, if you like I could sample both, see what works?

The trouble with using colour is that a colour which looks OK against a white background won't look good in Classic Goo.

Italic would be readable in all skins.

The different skin reason is why I didn't use colours. I had considered italics, but thought having 'Daily Planet' also in italics may be confusing. Would having italics instead of strikethrough and putting 'Daily Planet' in single quotation marks in this instance only work? Or am I making too much of this?

I think italics would be better than strike-through.

(I notice that Google Chrome puts the strike-through line in a different place from Firefox - it is below the bar of the 'e' in Firefox and Internet Explorer, but above the bar in Chrome.)

The opinion of the Guide Editors is that strike-through is not acceptable. It's too difficult to read.

But we're not in agreement as to what is a suitable alternative. One of us suggested italics, another thought that putting the omitted parts in square brackets would be enough. Other suggestions are welcome.

I think italics is unsuitable due to their being film titles in the entry which would cause confusion.

Another suggestion: bold text to replace the strike-through.

Then again we could place a smiley at the beginning and at the end of each strike-through. Possibly the or the or the

My personal opinion is that I think that square brackets might work best. Smileys might be a bit obtrusive? Bold used to highlight the sections that were considered unimportant enough to remove from the film would work too. Naturally I'm happy to go with any decision.
