h2g2 Guide Editors

Thanks for reading this page - and for considering an Entry for inclusion in the Showcase.

If you have a suggestion for our Panel to read and possibly include, would you post to this thread, giving the A-number of the page and the title of the Entry.

We rely on the Researchers and readers to scour h2g2 for suitable material. smiley - magic

Hello there,

I read this years ago and it really stuck with me. I couldn't remember the details but with the new improved (working) search I was able to find it in seconds.smiley - applause

I'm liking the idea of nominating entries for the FP and look forward to reading work from all sorts of corners and back alleys of the Guide.

Mrs Zen

Did I ever give you the list of entries I used and considered for The Book, Lanza? If not, I'll email it over or cutnpaste it in here.

Hi Ben - if it's a list, it might be better by email then I can put it straight into the Showcase forum from there.

Thanks for the reminder - the book list would be really good to have, as a lot of work went into the selection, and it was a good cross section of things too.

Keith Miller yes that Keith Miller

I notice this is a rather recent thread and as such it only has about four or five replies.

I'm not exactly sure what the 'Showcase' issmiley - erm

I'm a returnee[?]...

and I'm finding the new version of hootoo as equably difficult to navigate as the old.

Even though I'm a member from 2005 (I think)I still find it difficult to move around the site, it's such a deliberately oldish way of navigating.

That aside for one moment smiley - hug: Can I nominate something from the AWW?
I've never really been much of a 'Guide'man smiley - erm much preferring the poetry and the open verse from this sectionsmiley - cool

I'll have to look back at it all of course and see if I can find some stuff that rings a bell and does the job and that's what it's all about I reckon.smiley - smiley

Hi Keith!

yes please do nominate an Entry.

A quick explanation of what the Showcase is, or was intended to do.

It was to draw together all the best types of writing from across the whole of h2g2, both Edited Guide Entries and from the UnderGuide, and choose the very best as Gold Standard Entries.

We're not attracting much in the way of nomination - but we do now know that we have many more readers visiting the site, and reading our Entries. It would be good to have a collection of our best that could be featured on the Front Page.

( there is more to it than that - but I'll stop there)

Pheroneous

There are two entries that sit together and have affected me, and inspired me, way above anything else I have come across here. If they have not already been mentioned, please find space at some point for Winter Harbour A15814640 and Winter Birds A16254254 (The raw versions if possible). P

Thanks Pheroneous,

I shall most certainly bring these to the attention of the Guide Editors.

I've read Winter Birds before, but not come across Winter Harbour ( being a relative newbie) and it looks beautifully written - just in fact the sort of Entry I was hoping someone would haul out of the archives.

Good spotting! Many thanks again smiley - biggrin

It doesn't sound thrilling, but is one of the best researched articles I have ever read, is interesting while explaining complex facts and lets those without strong background knowledge understand a tough idea.
