Some landscapes lend themselves to Gothic better than others. The desolate moors of Yorkshire are one such place especially in winter. A transformation happens and the beauties of the place as experienced by the summer's happy aged delinquents of 'The Last of the Summer's Wine' become the creepy scary place that the Prof's story illustrates.

Things that go bump in the night indeed.

they allow some to be built, but at the moment in various areas the locals are not happy, because the "yuppies" from down south are buying cottages/bungalows and old barns, then converting them to "modern styles" (change happens) but would be ok if it was spread out over time as such, so it didn't throw the country way of life into disarray
