Men, women or small, green furry creatures from Alpha Centuri? Do you love them, hate them or are they a bit meh? Are they behaving, or taking over your book?
Please feel free to discuss all your character issues here.

How many words do you think it is justifiable to take before I kill 2legs off in my story?

Depends on the story. If it's a murder mystery, it can be the first words!

Unfortunately mine will be sci-fi. Which means that i have to have something appear before he dies, and i have to take care that he doesn't become a hero as the first one to die - a (almost) nameless death

Surely you want to spend a bit of time making us care about him first? His services to Nighthoover. His kindness to badgers. His support of barstaff everywhere.

Ah HA!!!
But now there is the cunning way of avoiding that
He is killed off quickly, then certain characters comment about his past history, both good and bad...the end of my novel may be several thousand words concerning him and badgers as i struggle for my wordlimit
