You take a man who has been waived by offensive weaklings Cleveland in favour of your own failed offensive star. (J. J Stokes was waived by Jacksonville in favour of Clwevelands's Kevin Johnson...)
Anymore signs of desperation creeping in around the league?

I don't think it's desperation ... I think it's a good move. Definitely a better one than waiving your leading receiver ...
But at least they've done something in desperation ...

Desperate is having drafted William Green in my fantasy team and STILL having him on the roster in the blind hope he would break out in the second half of the season.
Having checked my list these were the following picks if I'd passed on him,so maybe I shouldn't complain.
23. Martin, Curtis (RB-NYJ)
24. Dunn, Warrick (RB-Atl)
25. Thomas, Anthony (RB-Chi)
26. Barlow, Kevan (RB-SF)

....your teams 3 & 7.You're using a pensioner for a QB,your 1st round draft pick has been moved from 3rd string to 2nd and then back to 3rd string, the seasons over so use him now to see what he can do.If hes that bad,the team gets another high pick next season and Eli Mannings on his way to the NFL.
Oh, and your top rated player is a league leading kick returner, who can't even get a play on offense..
And your kicker tells you that he can't make the play that could save the game. When the hell does the coach listen to the kicker.Especially after missing FGs in his last 3 games...
Jeez,to have a decent team once more..goes back to watching tape of Superbowl XX.

I was thinking you were talking about the Raiders for the first half of that ...

Starting Mirer is among the more desperate things I've seen this year, it's true...
meanwhile, I note that Keyshawn Johnson is to be 'sat down' for the last three weeks for having 'a negative effect on the team'. Good to see that some things never change.

Now continuing the original desperation thread ... the Patriots have signed JJ Stokes (who was cut by the Jags to make way for Johnson) ...

I know you were joking about Mirer, but in his 2 starts he's fulfilled the "Fiedler-manage-the-offense" role very well. He's posted passer ratings of 106.4 and 111.9 (combined stats 27/38 - 381yds - 1TD - 0int) It's a shame Callahan refused to use the running game at the start of the season ...

I think Mirere is given an unnecessarily hard time by the press and the fans. Everybody forgets that he was pitched into one of the worst offensive teams in the league at Seattle and still posted better figures than Bledsoe in his rookie year.
He was also ideally unsuited to Erickson's scheme (having been scouted and drafted as a sucessor to proto-west coast QB Dave Kreig), and my guess is that had he ended up at a west coast team, he might have found his life and subsequent career very different.

Continuing on the theme of desperation and WR acquisitions that accompany it, the Dolphins have re-signed Oronde Gadsden. You may remember him as the man who lost his job to Derrius "The Invisible Man" Thompson during preseason.

Well, you can't say that your passing game has excatly lit up the boards this year, whoever has been under centre. Getting rid of Gadsden always struck me as an odd move in any event.
