Things are getting messy out there. Not only in terms of Iraq, but here on H2G2 emotions are high. I can't even read the "What's Wrong With Americans" thread anymore, because there's nothing there but people tearing into each other.
Why do I bring this up here? Well, I consider you guys to be friends of a sort... at least as much as anyone ever is to me over the internet. I just want to make sure that no matter what happens over the next few days/weeks, that we still respect each other and try to be friendly.
Because it sure as h*ll isn't very friendly out there right now.

I know what you mean RE1... at first I was annoyed, I'd only just felt the need to partake of conversations relating to the middle east, and then it was gone... The moderation that has happened has opened a real can of worms though and you're right, emotions are running high..
I've decided to keep away from all that now, especially after reading some of the reasons for moderation. I may not agree with all of it but the decision has been made and that is that...
I'm glad that we have this forum where all that other stuff can be ignored and our Amfoot related disagreements are taken in the light hearted jest for which they are intended.
I'm happy to continue with respect, friendliness and amiable banter... unless any Jets fans turn up

I'm glad to get a positive response... I feel better when I get even a little encouragement at a time when things are kind of rough.
(I'm an American, but I'm really a nice guy, I promise!! Really! )

Here, here.
Soemtimes I get the feeling that this 'war' is nothing more than a way for Dubya to say that he had a war down in the Gulf, just like his old man had.
However, I try to stear away as far as possible from any discussion on the topic because I don't think I'm qualified to comment.
The Amfoot forum is not only a place where we talk only about Am Football, but I see it also as a sort of support group, where you can come and get away from things for a while, and instead speak of Football, a (relatively) pure and civilised way to settle differences, if you wish.
I harbour no ill feelings towards anyone, and wish for no one to get hurt in war.Hopefully things will settle down. we can only wish and hope. I would have added pray as well, but since I don't really believe in that I let it pass.

Unless, of course, anyone was to suggest the 'Fins suck'....
RE1... of all places, the 'American' Football forum is the most likely place to find researchers who understand that what a govt says and does is not necessarily representative of all the people who share that nationality... and we're the least likely to to automatically condemn everything the US is...
From what we've seen this game produce in terms of the players, coaches fans and everybody else, and the fine notions of teamwork, sacrifice and honour (except the Redskins perhaps) they represent, it is apparent to us, I suspect, that America has plenty going for it... as always, you are more than welcome to be here...
hmm, did that get all a bit sloppy then... sorry, but I think you all know what I mean...

I was insulting those sqawking Eagles of yours long before the Forum was here, and long before the present crisis came along.
Whatever happens out there, respect and mutual understanding is guaranteed for all people in threads I partake in.
If we allow the present difficulties to affect friendships we have made here, and elsewhere, then the powers of darkness (whoever they may be) have already won, and we may as well give it all up and hand the world over to Giants Fans....

If you want a good exercise in racism, then a "What's wrong with..." forum is the place to go.
Here, you won't get maligned for your nation of birth. That wouldn't be fair, anyway, because it's just an accident over which you had no control.
Here you'll get maligned for your team, which is a personal choice.
I mean, really... the Raiders?? Isn't it required that all fans must have escaped from a court-ordered treatment program for crystal meth?

That attitude reflects why being a sports fan is so good.

In the true nature of Every Fins fan I've ever met, you get to hate Blathers as much as yourself and your team...
The Miami Dolphins - all they need to get into the play-offs is to get over that low self-esteem problem...
