How 'bout dem Broncos?
Bright Blue Shorts Started conversation Mar 6, 2003
I see Jake Plummer has signed with the Broncos. So what's the big deal with him? Hardly an outstanding QB of our era, is he?
The two things in his favour seem to be:
- leading Arizona to their only playoff victory in 55 years.
- leading 16 come-from-behind victories.
On the negative Arizona have suffered 4 consecutive losing seasons ...
So where's Griese going to be off to? Miami?

Griese's asking price is going to be beyond Miami's pocketbooks. And I doubt that he'll be willing to settle for a backup role. We're more likely to sign Neil O'Donnell.
The Lions have made a lot of outrageous personnel blunders in recent years... I wonder if they'll sign him.
As for Plummer, I guess Shanahan has decided to look upon him as a good QB on a bad team. Still, he's made some great comebacks, and he's killed at least as many games with absolute blunders.

Well well, a Raiders fan setting up a Broncos thread... a deep secret admiration or just an opportunity to spout vitriolic condemnation?
Personally, I think anyone who's played in Arizona deserves a second chance... who knows, playing for an organisation which can realisitcally expect to win each year with good coaching and players may be just what Plummer needs... And I'm sure 'offensive guru' Shanahan feels he can iron out any problems in Plummers play... like he didn't do with Griese...

I'd think that Plummer and DT Darryl Gardener represent a huge positive upgrade for Shanahan's team, to be honest. Plummer is still young enough that he can learn something and improve, and Denver is a team where he can do it - at Arizona he has constantly been hampered by the absoulute inability of the cards to run the ball in any way whatsoever...
More puzzling to me is San Diego's decision to go with the undoubtedly talented but wayward David Boston - did they learn nothing from the Ryan leaf experience?

Indeed... Schottenheimer strikes me as a coach who doesn't take kindly to troublesome players... although I base this on no evidence... I guess he kept giving chances Tamarick Vanover...
Still, if he stays out of trouble he's a big signing... the new triplets... Brees, Tomlinson and Boston?

Let's put it this way - I'm actually *glad* we don't have to play SD twice a year for the first time since I started supporting the Seahawks...
Trouble is, the defence is aging rather quickly, as shown by the first drop out, Rodney harrison this very year...

Still lynch-pinned by Seau though, and how much longer, realistically, can he play at that level?
I'm looking for Kansas to shock everybody in that division, to be honest. Vermeil has proven he can do it at the Rams, and I think KC look good for a bet on the AFC West this year...

I tend to agree... although I think Johnnie Morton could do with a return to form... If they land Douglas then definately

I've also read Douglas is doing the rounds in Denver, Arizona and somewhere else along with Philly trying to retain him... he appears to be the most sought after FA.... You'd better hope your guys put up a good offer... oh, and he likes rain

Well, that and the Ray Rhodes factor...as well as the genarl feel good factor around the place at the moment, whih Chris Terry pinpointed as being why he re-signed so quickly.
There are other DE's available in FA, though none in Douglass' clas, it's true...

Vonnie Holliday? Gbaja-Biamila is restricted so a good offer and a draft pick will get him.... David Bowens is yet to re-sign with Miami... you can have him

Chike Okeafor, who has good word of mouth. *NOT* Dana Stubblefield - we are not playing a Snyder game here...

Well, they may be about to surprise us al by lashing out all that salary cap room...
And I'm suprised no one has mentioned what must be the most crucial FA signing so far, Jake Delhomme at the panthers... He's sure to turn that franchise right around...

Hmmm, yes... they're setting up a camp battle between Delhomme and Rodney Peete apparently.... makes you tremble doesn't it?
