It may have been exceeded since (kordell Stewart I think) but in 1995, who set the then record for longest scoring run by a QB?

Steve Young?

He was always quite a good runner. I remember he had a great run against the Rams for about 46 yds and the winning score back in about '88. Broke a couple of tackles with high kneelift and spin moves ...

Mind you, bearing in mind who's setting the question, and obviously from memory (as it is no longer a record), maybe i should pick the *least * obvious and go for Dan Marino. smiley - laugh

Dan Marino?!!!smiley - laugh Dan Marino couldn't run this far if was pulled by a tractor!!!

No, it wasn't Steve Young, although I remember the run you refer to. Against the Vikings I think but definately in '88 - revenge for that 87 playoff defeat!!!

A clue... The QB in question and Steve Young have something in common.

Steve 'Air' McNair?

I have no idea whether he fits your clue because that could relate to a whole bunch of things e.g. he's left-handed, a mormon, played in the USFL, won a Superbowl, played in Tampa Bay or SF, played at BYU, or is retired.

How long was this run BTW?

Jim Kelly? who also played in the ill fated acfl(?)
or
Joe Montana, who also played at the 49ers, which I find nearly as unlikly as Marino, but not quite.

( I did once see marino run, I think, for 13 yards. It looked like very hard work...smiley - laugh)

Oh and I'm pretty certain that the run I saw by Young was against the Rams. Big NFC west matchup. Of course it may not have been as far back as '88 given that Montana was still QB'ing in those days ... For some reason the scoreline 30-27 rings bells, but that may just be coincidence ...

Okay, another clue... Joe Montana is not the player but he is the link of commonality.

BBS, the game against the Rams in '88 for the 49'ers was when Roger Craig had a fine day with high-knee action as he scored all 3 TD's in a 24-21 win. A notable 30-27 scoreline may have been in '89 when John Taylor set a 49'ers record with 286 yards receiving. The Steve Young run was definately against the Vikes in '88 - well, the one I remember is... Geez, am I sad or what?!!!

smiley - groan

Troy Aikman - inasmuch that both Montana and young both beat him in Superbowls, I think.

Not Troy. I think VRHG can confirm that Troy is undefeated in Super Bowls... 3-0

Could it be Steve DeBerg - the man who was displaced at San Francisco by Monty, and then at the Bucs by Young.

I think I am confusing Young with Craig from that game in '88.

Amfoot Trivia Question 0017

Post 16

FiedlersFizzle

Okay, I'll explain the clue a little. The QB in question and Steve Young are linked to Joe Montana in a way that no other player in NFL history is...

Does that helpsmiley - ok?

Oh ... and 2 further things:

1) Doesn't the Great JR now hold the SF receiving record with 15 for 289? (Along with the new Monday night record as set by him last night). Or have Owens or Stokes taken it from him since?
2) Definitely is spelt with 2 i's. Cut and paste it 10 times before you post on the trivia quiz again ... smiley - winkeye
