A Conversation for Talking Point: Your Internal Jukebox

Worrying when the jukebox *isn't* playing

Post 1

Titania (gone for lunch)

I've figured that much out in my life - that my jukebox is a sign of feeling OK mentally.

A couple of years ago things at w*rk got a bit chaotic, and then I also took on too many things in my spare time (but they were fun things) - and my jukebox went quiet.

I didn't even notice it at the time, I was just busy holding out because I knew the chaos had a time limit. But then, when the worst was over, and I practically collapsed (mentally and physically exhausted), it started playing again - and I realized how much I had been missing it!

That's exactly the opposite of what happened to me. I went through some tough times - a break-up and a house-move all at once - and I found that my mental music got louder and I tended to sink into it and ignore the outside world a lot. I guess it was my way of coping. I also found that the type of mental music changed to songs with more meaning and depth. That was never a conscious choice, actually I didn't realise until later.

Did you have any good things happening to you to balance the tough things? Maybe the loud music was your minds' way of balancing?

Even though I had too many things going, some of them were good/fun things, so maybe there was balance in my life although just too much of everything, so something had to be left out and it happened to be my jukebox? Just guessing, really...

No, there wasn't much good going on at the time. Unless you count re-acquainting myself with friends I'd neglected for the duration of my relationship, I suppose that was good. smiley - smiley

Unforseen

I have always found that when the music stops playing things get really strange in the world.
Kind of like finding the "zone" when playing a sport/game. You're able to focus so much that even the music of life seems to disappear.
Not a bad thing once in awhile but if you're that focused all the time you miss the wonder of the world.

And you may miss your favortite tune on the jukebox. smiley - biggrin
