Probably the most promoted and relegated team in the league?

I thought this was very interesting, but is it supposed to be an entry about the city or the footbll team? becvause If it was meant to be about the city as a whole, there's too much emphasis on the football.

The city bit was just a bit of background because the story of the city seemed a bit similar to the story of the club.

Fair enough. Would it not be better to call it something like Sunderland AFC then, so that if someone does write an entry on the city (don't know why they would, godforesaken little crapheap that it is), this didn't get confused with it? Just a thought.

Fair enough. Sunderland AFC it is.
By the way, did you hear about the lad Rooney sisning for Sunderland?
Doh!
Slipped into an alternative reality where PR means Peter Reid and he still has a job..........

Nice entry on the football club...
To be honest, what I'd do if I were you though would be to take the first few paragraphs on the city... add a couple of paragraphs at the end to describe the city today and submit it as a separate entry - that way you'd get two entries for the price of one.
That way youHave one entry exclusively about the football team, and you've already got 90% of an entry on the city there!
Two goes at the front page instead of just one

Small factual error, only 56 died in the fire at Bradford.

I took your advice on splitting the entry Whiskey but two became four and barely a scrap of w*rk got done.

"barely a scrap of w*rk got done. "
That's what I like to heaR! I'll be skimming through these entries as I am now familiar with the city, as I am almost halfway through the horrible three year sentence of studying there...

after reading so much about Sunderland while writing that lot I feel like I'm still there too.

This looks pretty comprehensive, TSF!
Mind you my home town won the cup just after the turn of the century without conceding a goal and won the final 6-0!

"only 56 died" - that seems a somewhat callous way to put it.

Hi.
I have a link for you, a technical point, and a question.
First the link: A882164. That's the copy of the Sunderland entry you'll want to link to, as it's the copy going into the Edited Guide. I know, because I'm subbing it.
On a technical note, your internal links (to other entries) should look like , instead of the whole . Not a big deal, but it will make them display properly over in the right margin. It's also easier on the fingers.
Finally, my question, which is actually about this entry. What does the 'A' stand for, in 'Sunderland AFC'? I'm sure that's very obvious to football fans, but, um... I have no idea. A quick Google search didn't help either, because apparently everyone's born knowing what the 'A' stands for. I'm guessing 'Association' or 'Associated'?

, sorry about those links, I'm relying too much on cut n paste instead of learning it properly perhaps.
A is for Association

Bank of England? I always associated that with Everton, and from what I can gather most people do (well I've heard sky sports commentry talk about it ). Everton can't have had the nick name long after Sunderland if what you say is true.
