A huge room, in the style called peasant's kitchen (though I doubt peasants had it so good! And they didn't have appliances...) On one side is a gathering area, with comfy chairs and a large table. There is also a fireplace, carefully screened so that drafts can't blow flammable family members into it... On the other side of the stovetop island (with the pots and pans hanging above) is the food prep area--double regular ovens in the wall, a pizza oven, a terrifically huge fridge full of (and just plain ) of all types, etc. etc...
On another side is a huge walk-in pantry (there's teenage boys in the house--of course the pantry and fridge are huge) full of all the non-perishable food smileys and all sorts of other foods
You name it--if it's edible, it's in here! No booze in the kitchen, though.

Why yes! It's one of those cleverly concealed ones ... made to look like another cabinet ...
::pulls open a cabinet::
No, it's not that one ...
::pulls open another cabinet::
Not that one either ...

Why didn't you try the cabinet next to the biggest sink, Aunt Shea?

Lady Scott Posted Nov 4, 2002
It's ok, Sarge, you can come in!
*motions to her to come in the kitchen*

Oh look! Dishtowels! And they're all arranged by color! How pretty!

Yes, there's a fire... and who do you think carries all the wood to keep that nice cosy fire going?
ME. That's who.
Where are all those sons when I need them?

*whispers in Mom's ear--Um, this one's a gas fireplace...*
The Scott Kitchen
Lady Scott Posted Nov 5, 2002
No it's not!
It's for real. I've been stacking firewood for hours, and have hardly made a dent in the 4 cords sitting in my driveway!

OK, it's not...
*goes off to drag one (or more) of the boys in to help*

*points to all the wood-dragging-in talk*
I'd help, but paper's not that strong...

Hey everybody!
Sure glad my Martians helped out here... Wasn't it a gas fireplace?
*sits down in a comfy chair... *
I'd help with wood, but I am the Great-Uncle... so my back is so-so... However, I can get the Martians to help with that too, they're unnoticeable and soundless...
