Thanks for this, Maria. I had no idea how widespread Spanish as a second language had become. You have a lovely speaking voice - you should charm some to take Spanish up.smiley - smiley

Gracias Elektra, you´re very kind

Well, never is late to start learning anything, even if it´s just to visit Spanish speaking countries on holidays. Trying to speak the local language is always appreciated.

Glad you like it.smiley - smiley

This is amazing, Maria! Ah, so lovely to hear that beautiful language!

I love Spanish. If I could wish for a second language I would want it to be Spanish. I can speak a bit, enough to order a cafe con leche condensada. heheh. I once bought a Carlos Castaneda book in Tenerife, in Spanish, with English translation, and I learned the word for lizard and some other strange words. haha.I also have Allen Ginsberg's Howl in Spanish, for some peculiar reason. My ambition is to read it aloud and sound as good as you. In my dreams. haha.

I'd like to speak Mexican Spanish also. I think it sounds the same but a bit different.

H smiley - ok

Hi Hellen,

leche condensada ?? you are a golosa lady... like mesmiley - biggrin Have you tried what Argentinians do with that? they boil it and make dulce de leche, Sweet of milk, lovely.
Argentinians´ accent is my favourite, I like Mexican too, it´s very peculiar, but for me Argentinians make the rhythnm as if they were to start singing and make most words sound as if the stress was on the antepenultimate syllable, as Italians.

The Spanish of South America varies also in the lexicon, not only because there are different words, but also because some words have different meanings and connotations.
And then you also have the Spanglish....
but don´t worry learning Spanish is not as difficult as it may sound.

Why don´t you visit the page I linked? you could find something interesting about Spanish literature. It´s a treat to study it. Believe me.

This web page :http://www.voxopop.com/
is like a message forum, but instead of written text, people send voice messages , you only need a microphone and join any of the groups of conversation there. There are many different languages.
