Who?

It may please you to learn that as a lecturer in ICT (once called computing) I have a display which includes actual examples of punched cards and punched tape, 8" floppy disks and computer magnetic tape.

I also remember Banda copiers, thank God they are gone.

I do wonder at the future for my students, glued as they are to their mobile phones, LCD screens constantly in sight to catch the lastest texting from God knows who. Do you remember going shopping without the mobile phone to ask the home-bound one exactly which make of kitchen roll to get when the favoured brand was out of stock?

My mobile is bust. Oh dear! I can't afford a new one (officially). That the trouble with new technology - stops you thinking and stifles initiative, don't you think?

Good entry.

indeed, we do rely on it far too much, when our servers were stolen where I used to work, we had a week without e-mail/PCs and had to rediscover face to face meetings (mmm how about longhand for things people uses accronyms for e.g. F2F?).

Was a scary time for us. But a good point - we tend to lack the ability to think on our feet when it comes to kitchen paper buying, with contact with others thaken for granted

Ah... but is it not more a case of 'if I get the wrong kitchen paper then 'at home person' will complain that I could have called them to ask'?smiley - winkeye
