Gawd Almighty, don't you ever sleep?!
I went to the ESB this summer. It is a lovely thing. I think you should say something about the fantastic lobby, all done out in grey marble and a beauty to behold.
FM (Gone Fishing and caught 4 Trout so far).

Just had a thought (first time for everything).
Why is the ESB called the ESB?
Before I visited 'http://www.esbnyc.com/' today, I didn't have a clue, so maybe you could edit this passage and include it in the entry...
New York's "nickname" is the Empire State, so that is why we have that name. Rumour is that when Henry Hudson sailed up New York harbor into what is now the Hudson River he was so taken by the beauty and majesty of the area that he said "This is the new empire".

A good entry.
I certainly would not agree with the ESB being in the list of most beautiful buildings. I think it is an ugly monstrosity. If it brought an end to the beautiful era of Art Deco, as epitomised by the Chrysler Building, that is a point against it.
But that's a personal opinion.
The entry is good.

Is it true that there were restrictions in the planning permission as to the average height of the building, but they got round this by making a very wide low base?

Looking very, very good...
I've been to NYC several times, but never gone into the ESB. I'll need to fix that next trip.
