A few good friends have suggested that I put this piece forward for peer review, but I'm not sure it's ready or good enough for that and would appreciate some help.
Thankyou

Your friends are right. It's plenty good enough for Peer Review.

You just need to add an introductory para explaining where and what the South Downs are (is?).

You could possibly make the title a bit snappier by deleting 'The effects of', and you'd need to add 'UK' at the end.

Fare forward, Paladin-Knight! Enter the lists! smiley - smiley

Thanks for the feedback.
It will give me something to do over the weekend

It would come in handy if people Knew where they were.

I'll also try what you suggested with the title and see what happens.

Hiya,
I've added an intro paragraph and put the UK bit on the end although the title would read "The myxoma virus on the South Downs",It could give the wrong impression. Thus leading to people staying away thinking the virus is still rampant on them when its not.Although the after effects are still being dealt with.

Fine, I hate getting bogged down discussing entry titles! See if anyone else says anything in Peer Review.

My other suggestion for now is that you start with 'In England, the South Downs...' so that people know right away what you are talking about.

Do I have to remove this article from the writing workshop and then submit it to peer review?

Its the first time I've done this.

The pleasure's mine - doubly so when people think well of my entries!

Don't quote me on this, but strictly between ourselves, I have a funny feeling that this entry is definitely bound for greatness.

So in case you didn't know, what you do now is click on Writing-Workshop, find this entry, click Remove, then Submit to Peer Review.

See you over there!

Me again,

I tried clicking on the remove button but it doesn't want to know.It may be something to do with the fact that I have a digibox rather than a pc.Its one of the downsides of this system that there are limits on its abilities.smiley - sorry

The way to speed that up is to click on Edit Entry, then Update to get it back into the system. That should clear it ready to Submit.

Hi theresmiley - smiley
It's an interesting article but I'm not clear about this. Is this Myxoma virus that which most of us would know as Myxamatosis? If it is perhaps that's worth mentioning as it would seem to me to be a more familiar term.
I'm certainly no ecology expert and I stand to be corrected on this but a point that occurs to me is that you seem to imply that the natural state of the South Downs is that it should be rolling downland with all the diverse life you describe. But if memory serves me from my schoolday geography, the natural state of the downs was broadleaf woodland in common with about 90 per cent of the British Isles.
Rabbits were introduced to England by the Romans as a source of food and human intervention with farming/grazing brought about the destruction of the forests and encouraged conditions in which rabbits could thrive. Introduction of myxamatosis was to cull an out of control rabbit population, which was regarded by farmers as a pest that destroyed their crops. If the rabbit population has such a marked effect on the environment, the signs you describe would only be the natural woodland trying to re-establish itself.
All the best
DK
