'Tis indeed my first time(ashamed to admit it, but I'm no longer a grog virgin ). As I said, I can see myself going through alot of this during the summer months. However reflecting on that prediction & your admission that you've grown tired of it, I can easily see how one could. I suppose the trick is to R--e--a--l--l---y space them out. Or intersperse them with other beverages. Oh Ostiarius tasting notes coming up.

I know that Shelley at Amber's consumes quite a number of bottles of Grog quite regularly, and she doesn't seem to grow tired of it.
I've been taking a break from the project and eating a lot of pate to try to rebuild my liver.

Alley Kat/Sherbrooke Chocolate Cherry Ostiarius, 6.5% ABV
The pour
Pours a very nice cola brown with a two and a half finger 'soap sudsy' tan head that gradually fades to less than one finger. Nice though transitory lacing. Some carbonation discernable, nut not much.
Aroma
Quite subtle...hints of cherry syrup(like a sundae topping/milkshake flavouring), chocolate, some sugary sweetness as well as a bit of roastiness.
The taste
Very nice! I'm getting a bit of vanilla-like sweetness(fairly subtle) up front, transitioning to a malty chocolate taste. The cherry shyly-and subtly-pokes it's head out in the lingering aftertaste. Actually, the cherry flavour seems more prominent as it fades - I like that effect! Clean/smooth finish with just a slight alcohol flourish/'tickle'.. Excellent! I Must try to get another six bottles of this.

AHa! Stroehlein was right, Rochefort 6 & raspberry-! Why did it take me so long to try it for myself?(Ok not Wittamer or even Belgian , but the Truffini Raspberry Truffle bar is a great substitute imho).

I just skimmed that blog post about the Rochefort as it's feeling late and I am *so* enjoying Steinbeck's Tortilla Flat just now (what a piece of work!) but am I right in my assumption that there is, in fact, no actual raspberry or chocolate in that bear? Is it not further support for my thesis that adding flavouring agents is 'cheating'?
Now, back to Danny and his friends swigging cheap red wine from gallon jugs.

j_z_d Posted Mar 22, 2011
No berries or in the beer, just apricot, dark fruit/raisin & citrus notes, along with hints of caramel, yeast & honey. Possibly the bear sniffed the honey notes in my Rochefort 6 but Too late, I've finished it!

In honour of Mr. Layton's demonstration of manhood today, I opened that bottle of Theobroma I've been saving. I very much like it!
I've made some quick notes, but I expect that as the bottle progresses, the notes will expand (although the roasted mushrooms with butter, capers, garlic and lemon juice may overshadow the beer when they finish in the oven.)
Dogfish Head Theobroma
9% 750ml.
The Pour
Slight head disappearing rapidly, hazy amber colour with a touch of pink.
The aroma
slight fruity malt, honey
The taste
Oh, my! This is rich! Cinnamon, fruit, honey, a touch of chocolate. As I start I don't detect the ancho chilies, but it's a big bottle, so I expect there will be a development.
Indeed, as the bottle progresses, the chilies come more to the fore, and the chocolate becomes more prominent. This is, indeed, an interesting concoction!

Alley Kat/Sherbrooke KGB Russian Imperial Stout, 10% abv
The pour
An opaque darker-than-dark brown with a gradually settling/dissipating finger of tan coloured head. Rather dense lacing, though it fades quickly, leaving a nice ring and a thin cap of foam.
Aroma
Strange, unlike the other bottles I've had I get a primarily phenol/alcohol aroma from this one. A bit of chocolate...chocolate more prominent on a second sniff, Some hints of roastiness.
Taste (*raises glass*to you Jack )
Perhaps a reflection of the day I've had, although I think not. I'm getting a subtly chocolatey alcohol warming more than anything else...sip on I say! Coffee comes out a bit more as it warms, along with some vaguely herbal, and rather medicinal notes. Very nice clean finish! Mmm, certainly underlines the nuttiness of this Valrhona Palmira(Venezuelan)chocolate...nice little Amaretto-like flavour burst in there!

I'll probably wait until tomorrow to get those notes in. Remind me, please.
I remember that I quite liked the KGB

I don't suppose you want(but I'll give nontheless)
Tasting notes, Unibroue Trois Pistoles(Belgian style or Belgian-inspired strong dark ale, 9% abv
The pour
Aggressive pour results in healthy three finger head, which gradually dissipates to a finger(and less) of tight off white foam. Nice thick/dense. though only temporary lacing.
Aeoma
Phenol/alcohol-expected at 9%-some dark fruits. Malt(at least a bit of it)and some roastiness.
Taste
Hmm, a maltiness mixed with a dark fruit-raisins & figs primarily-complexity, settling on an appley/pear flavour with a very dry finish! Very nice!

Brewsters Gunther's Hefeweizen, 5% abv - 15 ibu
The pour
Gentle pour results in minimal head, little evidence of carbonation.A cloudy(as it's unfiltered)golden yelow. Nice ring of tiny bubbles.
Aroma
Definitely a wheat beer. Malty yeasty...almost a bit of banana, some clove.
Taste
Very much a Hefeweizen, clean and wheaty with spice and just a hint of malt coming at the end, as well as some yeast characteristics(breadiness). A reasonably clean finish...decent wheat ale. I prefer Dunkelweizens myself, but this was ok, nothing special though.

You didn't remind me to do the KGB! And now it's bed time again!
I might get the new ones done tonight. Maybe.

anhaga's Home Brewed Dark Ale
Allah only knows the %. Bajeezuz big bottle.
The pour:
Dark like cola. Eight finger head.
The Aroma:
Malt. Alcohol. Dirty socks.
The Taste:
Actually, not bad! Lightly malty and roasted at the beginning with a little bit of cleansing hop bitterness on the finish. Not terribly complex, but very, very smooth. I think it could give Brewsters' Bow Valley Brown Ale a run and it would definitely win on both price and bottle capacity.

That's annoying.
My last post, the one the mods are considering, was my tasting notes on one of my homebrews. I guess we may not be able to use the word 'Allah' or the euphemism ba jee zuz.
To bad. They were good notes.

Brewsters Blackfoot Blueberry Wheat Ale, 5% abv - 17 ibu
The pour (clear whiff of blueberry upon opening the bottle)
Clear gold, ever-so-slight bluish tinge - this one's filtered. A finger of quickly diminishing head. A bit of carbonation, although I noticed slight;y more just after pouring. Nice ring and 'cap' o tiny bubbles.
Aroma
Hmm, very subtle...but cherry-like blueberry, not that much else.
Taste
Oh very nice! A Krystalweizen for sure...Very subtle hint of blueberry! Malt and breadiness come out near the end, I find the yeast-wheat/breadiness lingering a bit. Otherwise a clean finish. Would be great on a sunny patio*sigh*have to wait awhile for those circumstances though.
