It's amazing we still love our pets afterwards:

My mother's dog threw up on her oriental rug, a stain that went unnoticed for several days.

My father's cat fell in a bucket of blue paint and ran all over the house, including on his first edition "Stoddard Lectures".

My dog chewwed a 120 year old Buda statue, a quilt, and several first edition comic books.

My aunt's dog rolled in fireplace ashed and then jumped all over her white furniture.

Most of these pets have past on. When my parents were putting an addition on the house, a digger came across my pet cemetery.
