That is most queer. Perhaps another bug in the code?

It's not a bug - it's affected by subscriptions to busy forums - the site only checks back a few pages to see when you last posted to show a date on the personal space, so if your space is full of, say, PR threads, then your last posting will be pushed quite far back, then retrieved when someone posts again to a conversation you've posted to, bring that back to the front of your list.
Does that make sense?
It's possible get a 'no recent postings' very quickly by subscribing to Ask h2g2 and PR.

oh I hope this isn't going to the FM...
one thing which confused me is in the History & Origins part (last sentence of the 2nd para)
"The celebrations were forced to go underground during the Interregnum under Oliver Cromwell, who banned Christmas in 1651, but it re-emerged in the late 17th Century."
Up to then we're talking mostly about New Year, with a bit of Christmas for timing and context, but it's made clear that Hogmanay is unrelated to Christmas. Then we get ol Warty Nose banning Christmas. What has this to do with Hogmanay? Or were all knees-ups banned then? (which I can quite believe)
apart from that, and the wee imbalance between the parts about Edinburgh and Glasgow, I think this is super.

I think the implication is that because there was no Christmas, all the feelings of festivity were focussed around New Year rather than a mix between the two

Yes, but what I understood from that was that since Christmas had been banned - even though Hogmanay was separate - that was banned too.
It doesn't quite fit with the previous assertion that Hogmanay is quite separate from Christmas.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
