Well hey, it's hard to be impartial when you've stood knee-deep in the quagmire, as they say.

Oh, not your description, the reality you therein decribe!

While I find the true geniuses of advertising to be fascinating in their work and their lives...the bureaucracy that fills so many agencies and ad pages with crud is simply unethical to my simple mind.

How much effort and money does it take to take a picture and write some copy? Why does it take so many people who could do neither if their lives depended on it?

I was looking at some bios of the top twenty women in the biz on AdAge the other week...made me sick to my stomach...

Indeed. My own theory is that, what with the battering that the profession (and market) have taken over the past few years, the industry is being forced to accept an ever-dropping standard of staff whilst pretending to itself that it remains the preserve of the brilliant and fearlessly creative.

Problem is the same that afflicts the governments of western democracies. Over-concerned with focus groups and the tide of popular opinion and unable to take those leaps of faith that are conducive to true creativity. Or maybe I'm just getting old and grouchy.

Having said that, would happily trot off to McCann's or similar if they offered me a job. Can't be worse than the dot.com deadpool smiley - winkeye

I used to have the David Ogilvie book.
I compare everything else to his standards,

though I still think the "Somewhere West Of Laramie" Jordan auto ad to be a classic...

Looks good to me. Why not submit it to Peer Review? I think you've covered all the bases here - what else is left for anyone else to say? smiley - smiley

No sarcasm at the back, please.

Am the proud owner of Ogilvy on Advertising, which I have never read. Somehow I doubt that any of the great man's wisdom would have been useful for a 21-yr-old account exec working at Bitchy and Bitchy Ltd.

So how do you submit these things to Peer Review?

I believe that there is a button off to the right side of your entry
page that says "Submit for Review".

Once that button is clicked, I believe that a choice is offered.

Also, you can just go to Peer Review, open up a new forum, and put the title of your entry and the A number in the subject of the first posting and then post the link, as you did here.

Warning, though, those researchers who have used the phrase "please be kind, this is my first" have occasionally been pounced upon with both feet.

If you proceed as an adult and take what comes without getting involved in the personalities of the critics (which I am incapable of doing, which is why I don't spend much time in PR), then you will do fine.

Good Luck

* Go to RF3?entry=0 and look for the 'Remove' link that appears on the same line as your entry.
* Click it (and select 'yes')
* Then go to your entry ( A798276 )
* Then click 'submit for review' and choose 'Peer Review' from the drop-down list...
