I missed hours of surfing time tonight because of unexpected visitors. Lovely to see them and all that, but it ruined the night I had planned.

I sat, making small talk, painfully aware that Eggy was online, safe in the knowledge that I wouldn't be so rude as to wander through and turf him off the PC to log on myself while they were here. Grrr!

When they had discussed the reason for their visit and I thought they were going to say goodnight and go, Mr Susie, mine host, offered to make (another!) cup of tea and they gratefully accepted his gracious offer! An hour later, they said their farewells and left, by which time, all my online pals had buggered off to bed!

Sitting here like Susie-no-pals, I've started this conversation, so it's not been a complete waste.

Re-reading this, it sounds like I don't want visitors, which is far from the truth, eh, Bev???? I love company and relish nothing better than a good natter or a knees-up with my pals. It's the randomness of the appearance of tonight's visitors, when I had my schedule all worked out, that cheeses me off! "Sorry, I'm going online tonight!" carries no weight at all, unlike "Sorry, I'm working on my assignment tonight!"

Anyone else had this frustration, entertaining when all you had planned to do is log on and surf till the cows come home?

Susie, I can completely relate to this. I don't mind visitors either but I hate them turning up when all I want to do is log on and surf like mad! I especially hate when you have a visitor who turns up purely to use you for someone to moan to. I have a friend who calls and says "I'm just over the road, can I pop in" and I can't even lie and say I'm not in because she will have seen me!

When that pal phones, though, can you not just be enigmatic and say you're busy? When she asks what doing, you can say you're entertaining a secret lover, cutting your toenails or just say it's personal.
